Corporate Culture

  Practice has proven that the power generated by corporate culture is more guiding, cohesive, and motivating for enterprise management, and it is also the highest level of enterprise management. People are increasingly realizing that an enterprise can only humanely inspire employees' motivation by closely combining management and care with excellent corporate culture.

  Since 2004, the company has been restructured from a state-owned enterprise into a mixed ownership enterprise with employee shareholding, which has fully mobilized the enthusiasm of employees in all aspects and revitalized the old enterprise. For more than ten years since the restructuring, the enterprise has attached great importance to cultivating excellent corporate culture, cultivating good behavioral habits of employees, and creating a positive and upward competitive atmosphere. It can be said that all the achievements Bai Jingyu has made today benefit from the company's awareness and actions in cultivating corporate culture. The company's culture can be summarized into the following three aspects: integrity culture, innovation culture, and love culture.

   I. Promoting Integrity Culture

  The company was restructured in 2004, and in January 2005, officially determined the company's corporate spirit as: "Be honest, make medicine with heart"; and established the company's business philosophy as: "Establish a company-wide quality awareness and create defect-free products."

  The concept of "Be honest" aims to guide employees to be loyal and honest to the company. The company requires every employee to treat "Bai Jingyu" as their own "home" and consciously act as the owner of this "home"; to treat each product as their own child and carefully cultivate it; and to be sincere and trustworthy to others. No one is perfect! The company advocates that if mistakes are made, they should not be concealed or excused, but should be bravely admitted and actively corrected. Don't care about one's temporary "face", and learn to say: "I was wrong! I'm sorry!".

  "Make medicine with heart", for pharmaceutical companies, the key is to provide high-quality products. Medicines are related to national economy and people's livelihood and are one of the important factors related to social stability. Therefore, for a long time, pharmaceutical companies and drug safety have been the focus of national supervision and control. Especially after the "Qi Er Yao" incident in 2006, society has put forward higher requirements for pharmaceutical companies. At the same time as establishing the corporate spirit in January 2005, Bai Jingyu determined the company's business philosophy as "Establish a company-wide quality awareness and create defect-free products". The company has always believed that product quality is the soul of an enterprise and the embodiment of the enterprise's comprehensive quality.

  In production practice, the company strictly requires production departments not to "bend the rules" or engage in "hidden rules", and implements GMP routine management. In terms of quality management operations, the company carries out all work under the guidance of "raising standards". Since 2006, the company has been following WHO standards, bringing all workshops to a purification level of 100,000, five years ahead of national standards; in 2011, the company completed export orders for sterile eye ointments, four years ahead of the national requirement of completing sterile eye ointment production by the end of 2015. The company attaches importance to sample observation and analysis, simulates quality problems that may occur during the circulation process, designs product stability test plans according to the climate conditions and harsh conditions in four regions around the world, making sample observation more scientific and reliable, and ensuring continuous quality tracking of products on the market.

   II. Fostering an Innovative Culture

  Bai Jingyu's cultivation of innovative culture is mainly reflected in all aspects of the entire process of company reconstruction with "pharmaceutical export" as the detonator. According to the actual situation of the enterprise at the beginning of the restructuring, not only was there a lack of internal talent, but it was also impossible to attract social talent's favor to the enterprise. Therefore, it was very unlikely to achieve the ambitious goal of "creating defect-free products" by relying on its own strength. In response to this, Bai Jingyu's innovative approach is: to tap potential and cooperate to leverage strength. The concept of "pharmaceutical export" was born under such circumstances. Formally, it adopts OEM and commissioned production methods to handle export orders. Its profound significance is to learn advanced pharmaceutical concepts through cooperation with foreign companies and drive the overall improvement of the company's comprehensive strength. Because foreign companies have higher quality standards for customized products, in order to complete export orders with high quality, the company is forced to accept the high standards of foreign customers, although it is passive, it is a strict teacher and coach. In particular, the factory audits before foreign companies place orders are on-site training for the company. The "nitpicking" of the inspectors is the best way for the company to discover and improve its shortcomings.

  In order to encourage innovation, the enterprise also clearly stipulates that mistakes made in innovation will not be investigated. The defined standard is: for the first time or the first improvement, no matter how great the loss is, it is irrelevant to the individual. This has greatly stimulated the employees' creative enthusiasm. At the same time, since 2005, the company has held a science and technology conference every two years. The purpose of the conference is to promote the spirit of innovation, reward innovative achievements, and allow various new concepts, new viewpoints, and new technologies that contribute to the company's development to be showcased, allowing skilled employees to gain attention and respect. The conference not only showcases innovative achievements but also reflects on shortcomings and seeks gaps to promote better work in the future.

   III. Building a Culture of Love

  The company's culture of love can be seen from its care for veteran employees. The company is an old enterprise. Although it has been restructured, the change in the system is only a clarification of responsibilities, and the large number of problems left over from the old state-owned enterprises are unavoidable. After the restructuring, the company's arrangement of positions for veteran employees was neither "one-size-fits-all" nor "a new emperor, new laws". For the sake of development, the company has been recruiting graduates from higher education institutions to fill various positions every year, but the original employees who remained before the restructuring have all been properly arranged, ensuring peace of mind and a harmonious atmosphere in the company.

  The company's care for its employees is integrated into many details. For example, the free work meals provided in the early stages of restructuring seem very common now, but for small and medium-sized enterprises in competitive industries, especially when the company had only recently become profitable, employees would not have even thought of it. Moreover, Bai Jingyu treats this small window of the canteen as a major livelihood project of the enterprise. Tao Yuebao, chairman of the board, personally oversees the work of the canteen. He requires the canteen to implement standardized management like a production workshop, with various facilities placed in fixed positions and clear markings. Not only does it ensure that employees have hot meals and eat well, but it also establishes standards for nutritional matching of meals to ensure employees' health. At the same time, it also creates a comfortable dining environment as much as possible, such as installing speakers in the restaurant, allowing employees to relax during lunch. For employees who work at desks, they are given half an hour of work time each day for physical exercise, and production personnel in the workshop are given health subsidies. Since 2012, the company has also renovated "star-rated toilets" in two production areas and provided free toiletries in the bathrooms. In order to enhance the cohesion of the entire team, the company always considers issues from the perspective of grassroots employees, paying attention to their needs. The social security contribution base for employees is among the top in Nanjing, and the housing provident fund is paid at the highest rate. In addition, since 2008, Bai Jingyu has provided travel expenses to employees every July, and since 2011, each employee has also received different amounts of heating expenses in winter each year depending on their position. In order to improve the comfort of commuting for employees in the production area, since 2014, they have abandoned the previous method of renting buses to pick up and drop off employees and cooperated with a travel company to invest 3.5 million yuan to purchase six Zhongtong luxury buses specifically for picking up and dropping off employees, not only improving the company's image but also greatly facilitating employees' travel by conducting in-depth research on employees' home addresses and reasonably adjusting the route and station distribution.

  In addition, the company established a "Love Fund" internally in 2007 to assist employees who suffer from serious illnesses, work-related injuries, or are impoverished due to natural disasters, providing immediate relief. In the nearly five years since its establishment, the fund has helped nearly 500 people, with donations totaling over 800,000 yuan. Regarding the environmental construction of the employee's workplace—the factory area—the company has made plans since the relocation: greening, beautification, and landscaping. Today, walking into Bai Jingyu's production area, whether it's the pavilions, rockeries, and fountains in the raw materials factory area, or the classical wooden corridors in the preparation factory area that shelter from the wind and rain between each factory building, the beautiful scenery silently conveys a sense of comfort that any stranger entering the company would feel.
